Mayfly Emerger

When the temperature reaches the optimum point, mayfly nymphs will begin ascending to the surface to hatch. It is during this helpless stage that fish become more active and begin to key in on these insects.

Emerger patterns are most effectively fished within the top 2-3 feet of the water column, sometimes even in the surface film of the water. A dead-drifted emerger pattern with a very short swing at the end of the drift can be highly productive.
